Kanakuk counselor may serve only four months for molesting boys

Taney County Circuit Court Judge Mark Orr sentenced Kanakuk counselor Lee Bradberry, 23, Auburn, Ala. to 10 years in prison today for sexual crimes involving underage boys, but Bradberry could be out in as little as four months.

Bradberry's sentence, included a 120-day callback or "shock time." At that time, the judge could place Bradberry on probation for the remainder of the 10 years.

Bradberry was sentenced to four years for sexual misconduct with a child under 14, seven years for statutory sodomy and two 10-year sentences for child molestation. All of the sentences are to run concurrently. The probable cause statement in Bradberry's case is shown below.

He deserves to be let out after 4 months. I don't think jail time will do any good in his case. I personally know Lee, and he has turned his life around and has truly learned his lesson. Everyone makes mistakes, some bigger than others, but everyone deserves a second chance, especially Lee.

The answer to this problem that has apparently been ongoing for years is to close this phony Kristian Kamp. Once and for all .... for good. If it isn't a public nuisance I don't know what you would call it.

To the one that knows this young man, from a psychological perspective, there are two clear options here. 1.) He is a hardwired pedophile who will continue to prey on young children, and in that case he should stay in prison for a very long time. 2.) He was a closeted and severely repressed homosexual who acted out on these boys because of a misconceived closeness that he felt he could express himself on without getting in trouble. In the case of the second, if he is now able to accept himself and learn to have healthy same-sex relationships with consenting adults, I think the four months is suitable. As you know him, which of these two do you think is correct? I would hope it is the later, and if it is something else, like he continues to be regressed because of his conservative upbringing, I feel nothing but pity for him because his life will just be one big tragedy, because he is either repressed gay or pedophile.

I've known Lee for a few years now. He was popular, well liked, and involved in the church. I cannot tell you how much this saddens me. Not only was he a friend of mine, but I also had great respect for his passion to serve the Lord.

I had no idea that he had the desires to commit such insidious acts...even worse to act on them.

No matter what, these children will suffer from these events for the rest of thier life... regardless of wether or not Lee goes to prison for 10 months or 10 years. I've put myself in shoes of every single person involved in this and can't find a clear cut answer.

Locking him up and throwing away the key is not the answer. If Lee is not in the presence of children, I don't believe he poses a threat to society. Lee is obviously not alone in this... he has plenty of loved ones who would be crushed if they never saw him again.

On the other hand, this is going to piss off alot of people. If my son was molested, I'd ceratinly want the maximum retribution given to him (not just 4 mo).

I just pray for Judge Orr and that God gives him the wisdom to make the right decision... whatever it may be.

Not all men are violent. But the majority of violence and molestation and crimes, especially sex crimes, are committed by men. How many multiple offenses does it take? Wasn't the man who shot the police officer in Spfd, and then shot & killed by police this week, just out of prison for 2 weeks? I don't have answers, just questions. I hope our communication "systems" between courts, and States, and prisons, and counselors, and....is structured to protect the innocent. Innocence that can NEVER be gotten back.

Unless you are or have been a of victim of a sexual crime, you don't know the ongoing pain he has caused his victims. And from what I understand (please if there is a psychologist out there) being a homosexual does not make you a pedophile. A mistake is when you get a math problem wrong. Fondling, etc. of young boys is not a mistake, it is a crime and a choice that this young man made because he is attracted to young boys. I imagine most victims don't think 4 months is adequate to change his desire to get sexually gratified by young boys.

I'm a bit confused as to how he got off so much lighter then Pete Newman. I'm no lawyer or judge, but it seems to me that the 10-year sentence was just a formality, and this 120-day shock treatment will most certainly keep him out of jail. If they actually thought he would still serve time afterwards, I don't even see this treatment as an option. For those with more knowledge of the situation, were his crimes THAT much lighter then Pete Newmans, to warrant him being essentially free in 4 months, vs. Pete spending the rest of his life behind bars?

Pete Newman was charged with sodomy and multiple other sexual acts far more extreme than groping over clothes. Both are terrible, but that explains the difference in sentencing.

I have known Lee for 12 years and that guy was well-liked, and had a passion for God. While he made some terrible mistakes, he does not deserve a life of imprisonment, and this is coming from a victim of sexual assault. I have seen truly evil and depraved human beings, who need to be kept away from everyone for the safety of society, but Lee was not, is not, and will never be one of them. I cannot forgive Lee's actions, but he deserves the right to atone for his sins, just as we all deserve a second chance. "No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it." 1 Corinthians 10:13

He should never be let out of jail.

Thank you. Goodness these people on here are nuts. Lock him up for the max. He was given 7 years for sodomy. Do you people not know what that is?????? Look it up. If it was my child, he wouldn't make it to jail. And he would be buried missing his manhood. That's what all these pedophiles deserve, especially the gay ones.

Two counts of sodomy and one count of attempted sodomy. Lock him up
